These children enjoyed singing for the residents of the Ellan Vannin Home during their harvest festival. The Ladies' Committee at the home showed us a newspaper article, showing that St Thomas' School has had links with the home for at least 70 years, which surprised the children! In those days the school donated jellies for a Christmas party! Today, we are invited back to sing for the residents during their harvest and Christmas services, and we are always grateful to receive such a warm welcome from the residents and staff. During the service today, Rev Coldwell told the children and residents all about the harvest mouse, who we can see on this harvest loaf that we were kindly given to take back to school. He told us about Robert Thompson who was a furniture maker from Yorkshire. He designed oak furniture for churches and added a carved wooden mouse into many of his designs, because he had been 'as poor as a church mouse'. The children really enjoyed the story and were keen to do some research back at school, looking for pictures of these mice!
