Day 4 in York - a dusting of culture!

Today we visited Murton Park for the Roman experience! Mr Palmer and Mr P took on new roles as working horses dragging the cart up to the Brigantium - a recreated Roman Fort. The children were recruited from their home farm to become Roman soldiers. They left their families and previous lives behind before heading to their new home in the fort. The children donned their tunics, belts, shields and helmets in their barracks before heading to the training ground where they were armed with training swords and spears and practised drills to become a well oiled unit! After lunch we learnt to write our names in Latin and wrote a letter home then we made oil lamps out of clay. We were then approached by an angry Celt - but we fought him off and sent him packing!
