Thursday 12th July, Barrule class met with some very exciting visitors at Willaston School!
Following our 'Great Fire of London' topic, Douglas Fire Service came to visit Year 3 to conduct a very thorough fire safety talk and demonstration. After learning all about how fire spreads, what to do in the case of a fire, all about the equipment used by the fire service and having time to ask many MANY questions... the team then set fire to our model 'Pudding Lane' houses on the front yard! This was VERY EXCITING! The children were able to use the thermal imaging cameras to gauge the heat of the fire and some even got to use the water hose too!
Amongst all the excitement, unfortunately the team were called out to an emergency! We watched them carefully extinguish our fire, and heroically dash off.
We are very thankful to Douglas Fire Service for their time and the knowledge they passed on to us. We are especially thankful for their help in burning our houses, it is definitely an afternoon we will remember!
